From 1972 until 2001 the Gallery actively collected over 260 prints by Australian printmakers through the Henri Worland Memorial Print Award (1972 – 1992) and the Rena Ellen Jones Memorial Print Award (1997 – 2001). These exhibitions were supported by Fletcher Jones and Staff and then the F. J. Foundation.
The Awards encouraged Australian printmakers to submit their most recent works to be selected for exhibition and possible acquisition for the Gallery collection. For three decades the Awards provided a unique opportunity for the Gallery to regularly survey contemporary Australian printmaking practice and build on the Gallery’s already significant collection of Australian artists.
To celebrate this extraordinary body of printmaking the Gallery has invited, Anne Virgo, Director, Australian Print Workshop to curate an exhibition of 64 selected prints acquired through the Henri Worland Memorial Print Award and the Rena Ellen Jones Memorial Print Award.
