Rona is known for her peculiar images of creatures bearing marks and scars that tell of past experience. The prints in this exhibition reference the tattooing traditions of various cultures and examine ideas about identity and individuality within society. Through the absurd characters that inhabit her pictures she endeavours to connect with the viewers understanding of acceptance and exclusion.
Obliquity is running in conjunction with three other exhibitions: A New World, Transformer and New Under The Sun. All will all be formally opened at 6pm on Friday 1 May by Dr Alison Inglis, Program Head of Art History at Melbourne University.
As part of the exhibition program Rona will present an artist floor talk at 4.30pm on Saturday 28 May and will conduct a linocut printing workshop from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 30 May.
An exhibition catalogue is available with an essay by Rodney Forbes, painter and Head of Gippsland Centre for Art & Design, Monash University.
